Backend Engineer (Python / FastAPI)
Design and build the APIs, data models and background workers behind our products and client platforms. Typed Python, PostgreSQL you can reason about, and workers that do the slow things properly.
What you will do
- Build REST and WebSocket APIs in FastAPI with Pydantic schemas
- Model data in PostgreSQL and write migrations that are safe to run live
- Implement background workers for scheduled and long-running jobs
- Integrate third-party services behind interfaces with mock implementations
- Instrument what you build — logs, metrics and alerts, before it ships
What we are looking for
- Strong Python 3.11+ including async, with production experience
- Solid relational modelling and comfort writing non-trivial SQL
- Experience with a queue or task system (Celery, ARQ, RQ or similar)
- Have operated something you built, and learned from it breaking
- Write tests because they make you faster, not because a policy says so
Nice to have
- pgvector, PostGIS or other PostgreSQL extensions
- LLM or ML serving experience
- Payments, KYC or other high-correctness domains
These are genuinely optional. We would rather hire someone strong on the core and curious about the rest than someone who ticks every box.
